Assistant Project Manager – Installations

SJ Lighting is seeking an assistant project manager who appreciates and enjoys the challenges, responsibilities, and pleasures of working with a small, tightly knit team of passionate and committed people to accomplish extraordinary things.

Your Responsibilities

As an assistant project manager you will be responsible for working with the project lead designer to coordinate and deliver design documentation, assist with bidding and procurement of lighting equipment, and perform onsite commissioning of control systems. The project assistant will be working exclusively on permanent installations in fields such as, but not limited to, nightlife/nightclubs, pool decks, restaurants, theaters, and other hospitality related venues. The work primarily consists of internal design concept development, CAD drafting/asset management, procurement tracking, and lighting controls programming. The role of project assistant can also include design rendering and/or client management if the skillset exists. Periodic travel (domestic and international) will be required as a project reaches completion. This position is full time, junior-level, and requires in office work from our Westlake Village, CA location.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in CAD software, either AutoCAD or Revit
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Basic understanding of DMX lighting control systems and network topology
  • Basic understanding of production lighting equipment including rigging/attachment methods
  • Ability to read and comprehend technical drawings (lighting plots, ground plans, RCPs, sections)
  • Ability to manage a budget during design process
  • Ability to quickly communicate design concepts with hand sketches
  • Fundamental knowledge of lighting design concepts (color temperature, lighting angles, moving light functions)
  • BFA/BA degree with a focus in Lighting Design, Stage Management, Production Management, Theatre Technology, Architectural Lighting, or related fields
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • Must have a valid passport
  • Travel domestically or internationally up to 20% of the year

Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • 3D modeling in Rhino, Sketchup, or similar
  • Basic game development in Unreal Engine 4
  • Familiarity with commercial architectural design process
  • Jobsite experience with construction contractors
